Approximations to Residential Tourism in the province of Santa Elena, Ecuador

Abstract

Among the natural resources in the province of Santa Elena, tourism of “Sun and Sand”, constitute an attraction for real-estate growth of v illas, apartments and summer houses that has not stopped since 40 years ago when Salinas first began to grow, growth which today has been extended to the northern region of Santa Elena, but that exceeds to great lengths the tourist offering for commercial lodging. This study attempts an approximation to the definition of residential tourism and the types of residential tourists that exist in the province of Santa Elena, the house-renting activity for vacation season contributes with an indicator of sustainability such as the rate of residence in the province.
